Details of modified 1999 Mazda Protege
– Will the wheels 17x8.0 23 offset with P 205/40 R17 tires fit on a 1999 Mazda Protege?
– Yes, they will fit. As you can see from the pics this 1999 Mazda Protege is running Speed Star Vienna Dish 17x8.0 with 5.41” backspacing and Wanli S1088 P 205/40 R17 tires.
The front fitment is straight forward, everything clears.
The rear requires either a great deal of camber, or a generous pull. I was unable to camber so I pulled. When pulling, rear bumper mount needs to be moved outwards as well.
8.5" wheel will not fit stock suspension, it will hit the spring perch.
8" will fit stock suspension only with lower effective offset.
Camber is currently at 2.2 degrees negative in the front and 2.3 in the rear.

Definitions
Wheel Offset
Refers to how your car’s or truck’s wheels and tires are mounted and sit in the wheel wells.
– Zero wheel offset is when the hub mounting surface is in line with the centerline of the wheel.
– Positive wheel offset is when the hub mounting surface is in front (more toward the street side) of the centerline of the wheel. Most wheels on front-wheel drive cars and newer rear-drive vehicles have positive offset.
– Negative offset is when the hub mounting surface is behind the wheel centerline. “Deep dish” wheels are typically a negative offset.
